Brief explanation of the therapy
Reiki, literally translated, means ‘Universal Life Force Energy’. Reiki is an ancient eastern form of hands-on energy healing. Reiki is a high vibration energy of universal vital life force which flows through all living things and it can be activated by Reiki therapists for the purpose of giving healing.
Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese scholar from the 19th century, rediscovered the essence of reiki in ancient Buddhist teachings written in Sanskrit sutras. Reiki is sometimes called Usui Reiki, carrying the name of Dr Mikao Usui who rediscovered it. Although it has its roots in ancient Buddhist teachings, Reiki is not a religion or a faith system.
All healers work with the life force energy, but not all use Reiki. Reiki is a different vibration from other healing systems because of the attunement process, which tunes the healer's body to a higher vibration, thereby allowing a clear channel for the energy to flow.
What can the client expect at the appointment
The sessions are informal and relaxing. At the first session, the client will be asked to give information for reasons for seeking treatment.
What will happen in a session
Reiki treatments are non-intrusive; the treatments are on an individual basis and usually last about one hour. The receiver lies fully clothed on a treatment couch or sits in a chair if preferred. Reiki treatments are given by the practitioner placing her hands on various positions on or just off the recipient's body following a guide of set hand positions, which cover the major chakras and organs. This enables the Reiki to flow to any area of disease.
During treatment, as a client’s energy comes into balance and any stresses or tension are released, they can experience a very deep sense of peace and relaxation; they may feel pleasant sensations of warmth, coolness, tingling or experience underlying emotions surfacing; they may see images or colours; or they may even just fall asleep.
Reiki healing treatments are very relaxing and following treatments, clients feel a sense of restored wholeness, harmony and calm. It takes a few days for the energies to be fully absorbed and on rare occasions a client may feel some temporary healing reactions after the first treatment as toxins and negative emotions are released from the body. During that time, a client may feel just a little worse for a short while, which indicates that they are releasing the cause of the symptoms. Drinking plenty of water after sessions helps to flush toxins out of the system and to minimise side effects.
How many sessions should the client need before they see a result
It may take several sessions to resolve a problem/issue. Many people chose to receive Reiki on a regular basis – it is like having a regular MOT for body and soul!
