Practitioners
Lyn O’Neill, Sue Durant
Pilates is an exercise form that is practised in a closely supervised group of up to 12 people. It strengthens joints, improves mobility, flexibility and body strength. It improves posture thus ensuring that little unnecessary strain is put on joints. For anyone with chronic pain or severe back problems 1:1 classes are advisable.
What can the client expect in the classes It is necessary to be able to lie on the floor (MATS PROVIDED) for classes held in the Studio at Nine Springs. The instructor will introduce beginners to the principals of Pilates and explain how each type of exercise can benefit the individual. They will then explain how each exercise should be carried out - demonstrating the process where necessary.
What will happen in a session
Each session lasts one hour. Mats and equipment are provided. Wear stretch or loose clothing with socks or bare feet. Bring water and a towel as a head support if necessary.
How many sessions should the client need before they see a result
Pilates does not work immediately as the mind and body need to become stronger and more accustomed to the exercises. It needs to be done regularly to see lasting benefits. Pilates is an exercise form for life that will complement any existing sport or exercise form reducing the risk of injury.
What can the class help
Pilates has been shown to help:
- Lower back pain
- stiffness
- breathing difficulties
- tension and stress
- building strength
- core stability.
