COUNSELLING
Practitioners
Sally Barmes, Mike Bellew, John Speirs
Brief explanation of the therapy
Here the therapist is required to be an attentive listener in a private and confidential environment to someone who is seeking help. The client may find themselves in a difficult situation with which they are not able to cope and need assistance in seeing things from a different perspective. The counsellor will not judge the client or necessarily give advice; they can help them explore their feelings and consider different parts of their life which may then provide them with a better understanding.
Sally Barmes offers one hour of one-to-one counselling using a variety of methods to explore a given situation or state of being.
Mike Bellew
offers a range of professional counselling approaches including
Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) and EMDR
(Eye Movement Desensitisation Processing) therapy, as appropriate to
individual needs. This helps clients come to understand why some problems keep repeating and find new ways of coping with difficulties, and discovering freedom of choice in matters that have seemed out of control. In addition Mike also offers longer term counselling to
address unresolved issues.
John Speirs offers Person-Centred confidential Counselling sessions which usually last for an hour and can be taken on a weekly basis.
What can the client expect at the appointment
All our counsellors offer a safe, private space where the client can explore and express their feelings & thoughts without fear of being judged. They will discuss matters with the client and after an initial assessment will suggest a course of action.
What will happen in a session
The client will be encouraged to explore their issues, feelings and thoughts, and to examine options for taking action. They will also be encouraged to think about their decisions in order to try and provide a clearer understanding of situations.
How many sessions should the client need before they see a result
This will depend on the issues being presented.
Sally Barmes deals with both short and long term issues and resolutions.
Mike Bellew will mutually agree a contract after an initial assessment.
John Speirs usually works to a block of six sessions followed by a review to assess progress although on some occasions this number may not be needed.
