ART AT NINE SPRINGS
OUR CURRENT EXHIBITION IS BY THREE ARTISTS WHO HAIL FROM SOMERSET AND LONDON
Sara Clay, Roy Sweetman and Ra Zamora
SARA CLAY, frsa
"During my final year of school, my Saturday morning art teacher (a trendy Abstract Expressionist) asked what I planned to study at university. Having been thoroughly influenced by parents, teachers & guidance counsellors, I said ‘French’. That was sensible, she said, ‘you have a nice little talent ...’ ‘But …’ wasn’t voiced.
I’ve pursued half a dozen careers since, some fairly creative, none relevant to French studies. But I considered myself someone who would have liked to be an artist. Lately I've discovered that, actually, I am an artist. I suppose I could be described as a neo-Impressionist, with a fascination for Glastonbury’s iconic people and places, myths and mysteries.
My work will never hang in the Tate Modern. Art critics are unlikely ever to notice me. But people seem to like my stuff. Occasionally they buy it. And when I am painting, and it’s going well, I am perfectly happy.
Contact me by email saraclay@btinternet.com. or phone 01458 834789.

ROBERT SWEETMAN
Robert studied at Hull College of Art and then the University of East Anglia, achieving his BAHons degree in Art History.
As a student, he mentally collected self-portraits. How many Old Masters can you name in ‘School of Art’? He taught drawing, painting and art history for Somerset Community Education for twenty years, but now prefers to exhibit his work and create paintings to order.
Described by his art teacher at school as ‘a likeable oddball’, he has a talent for figurative styles and sums up his favourite themes as ‘fakes and fantasies’. Robert has an eye for the details that surround him in rural Somerset, where he lives on a smallholding with his family and a few sheep.

She has exhibited in London, Bristol and at various venues during Somerset Arts Week.
Ra creates colourful art works exploring new positive ways of portraying mass-media symbols and icons of timeless beauty.
Ra's intention is to bring some Joy, Colour and Inspiration into peoples lives.
