Brief explanation of the Therapy
It is a soft tissue remedial therapy which was named after its innovator Tom Bowen. The therapist uses their fingers or thumbs to move over muscles, ligament tendons and fascia in different parts of the body.

It is very subtle and gentle and involves no hard or prolonged pressure. It can also be relaxing.

What can the client expect at the appointment

A full consultation will take place prior to any treatment.

What will happen in a session

During a session the client will lie on a therapy table or bed - though the work can be effectively carried out with the client in a chair.  The client will be asked to wear loose clothing as most practitioners are happy to work with a fully clothed patient. Some will prefer to work on skin but this can be discussed with the client.

Usually the therapist will address the whole body even in an initial treatment.  Moves are predominently made over the legs, the back (upper part) and the shoulders. The client then tends to end the session face up when the therapist will work on their neck.

The technique involves the therapist leaving the client from time to time as this allows the client's body to make any changes to re-pattern its energy fields after the moves have taken place.

How many sessions should the client need before they see a result

This very much depends on the individual. Most people may see some benefit after only one or two sessions.  A number of people use it as a stress management technique and visit the therapist once a month.
